Kill Me

Kill Me
By KRS Murthy

Kill me, kill me, kill me right now.
Yes, you may kill me any which way you can
If you can, cut my head into hundred pieces.
And sprinkle my blood all over the town.

I will resurrect into thousand heads
For every drop of blood that drips
Scare you in your dreams, as you are fast asleep
Haunt you day and night, all your life

I am your greed, the inner voice that keeps wanting
I am your jealous thoughts, that bugs you every minute
I am that thought that makes you angry with no reason
I am in your blood that makes it boil, when all else is cool

Do you remember when you were just a kid and innocent ?
When I didn't have a reason to be, but moved in with you
As you were unaware, and growing up like anyone else
Growing up to be worldly, and seduced by its pleasures

You feed me in every bite that you eat, yet never make me full

You soak up my thirst every gulp, yet never quench enough
I know, you pleasure me in so many ways, so many times
Yet, have you realized that I always want more than you give

Don't ever blame me for wanting all the time, all the things, please.
For, the more you give me, I want more than ever to be pleased
Try not to kill me, for I will kill you before I leave you peaceful

He ! Just know that I am the reason that you are human animal

Just leave me alone, and not talk to me any time

Be deaf to what I say, and I may fall into hibernation
Alive but barely alive, in a deep sleep, in my heavenly cave
OK ! Good bye to you my friend, for I am already very sleepy.

Questions:

  1. Who is talking to who in the poem ?
  2. Why does the poem start with words like "kill me",  "sprinkle my blood",
  3. "scare you in your dreams" and "haunt you day and night" ? What do these
  4. expressions really mean ?
  5. What is the real theme of the poem ?
  6. Do you have any comments on the poet's style ?
  7. What does the last stanza really imply ?

(You may also read the notes given after the poem)

Notes:

The poem is about the root of jealousy, greed and all other thoughts and feelings. All these feelings and thoughts are a result of, and different forms of the inner ego in all of us. The inner ego is the voice with in us which keeps talking to us all the time. However, the same ego also tells us, in the last stanza of the poem, how to deal with it, so that it does not control us. It is normal if you were caught off guard while reading the title and the first lines in the poem. That is my signature style in many of my poems, deliberately and tactfully employed to give that impact and punch and also to get the attention of the readers. It is similar to powerful turns in stories, novels, dramas and other literary forms, which make them captivating. I have to create that impact very quickly, because the poem is meant to be short. In other literary forms, there is a lot of time to build the tempo and the readers mind for the unexpected turns.

ILLUSIONS OF REALITY

ILLUSIONS OF REALITY
by K.R.S. Murthy

Reflections of the darkness
Soothing melodies in deaf ears
Anticipation of yesterday
Memories of to-morrow
Hard to forget realities of dreams
Mourning of my own death
Gravitational pull of the sky
Hunger in a full stomach
Warmth of my own hug
Rain fall from the oceans to the sky
Fear of my own birth
Celebrations of the pleasures of death
Hatred of falling in love
Eagerness of the lovers' separation
Contentment in emptiness

The bliss of being alone
Being alone in the whole universe
The one I conceived from my own non-existence
Believable illusions of reality !

NOTES:

The poem reveals its meaning in its few last lines. Even most of the common poetry enthusiasts are gripped by the poem, when I  read them in poetry reading forums and groups. Some have noted the true inner meaning after repeated reading.
Enjoy this poem.

Till death do us part ?

Till death do us part ?
By K.R.S. Murthy

Forget me not, for I am lonely without you
Highs and lows for all these years with you
Like a shadow, I followed you night and day
Without you with me, I may as well die

Inner secrets, sweet and sour, we shareAre hard to believe we went through in life
It is only you I can trust, for all our sins
To share the joys, without any bounds

You are the only one I know in full so far
It feels as if you are my reflection in the mirror
Or, my inner voice, whispering commands,
rights and wrongs, without any shame

We took an oath of honor, love, and bondagePartner for life, you are the only one
Will never share that sacred feeling
With any one, even if I am alone for good

I know, the untold promise written in blood
Every drop flowing through the heart and veins
For all the past, and the glorious plans
For the years to come, we made on the day One

Yes, I miss you, and can not see you cry,If we go apart, for ever, and ever
Kith and kin do loose each other
Without fail some time, sooner or later

Don't you realize - there is an end
To every thing, big and small,
For that is the edict for all
From the real big power over all

Hey tell me... tell me .... right now
Tell me the real truth, once for all
Who you are, and why you are
The one I need for the times to come

Are you my life ?
I mean, the reason I breath
Or, the life of all the years I had
To cherish the role I played on stage

Are you my soul ?
Heartless with no pleasures or pain
Not to die with me, but go on for ever
Looking for a new abode, again and again

Are you just an illusion ?
Born out of my mental gymnastics
Product of the brain factory
And no semblance to reality

Wake up my dear self from the illusion
You as my soul is my creation
And, not the work of a magician
Making all of it from nothing at all

To be free from me, and the web of my love
If that is what you want any time at all
Alone at last is truly a wish never to come true
For I can release you, free for ever

I will let you free, and freeze the time
Kiss you good bye, the kiss of death
Cherish my love, and live loving the life
For it lasts, only as long as we are in love

NOTES: The poem needs to be read few times before it reveals its true meaning, for it could be deceiving in the first few readings. It could come across as a simple love poem. It is a love poem, but of the ultimate kind; the inner voice, the ego revealing its grip  hold of love. It is indeed a different kind of self realization, of the identification of the ego with the self.

Wake up! It is already time

Wake up! It is already time
by K.R.S. Murthy

Good Morning ! How are you this morning ?
Did you have a good night sleep ?
You have your eyelids still closed.
Do you need more sleep !

What ! I have just woken up.I have not even brushed my teeth !
Who is this pestering me this early !
I wish people let me some solitude in the morning.

Don't be scared, I am not bothering you, I hope !
I always wanted to talk to you, and ask you many things.
At least, I was intending to meet you face to face,
As long as I remember; but, you eluded me all the time.

Who are you anyway ?I remember to have locked the door before bed.
How did you get in this morning ?
Did you break in the house, or through a window ?

No. Not at all. I was in the house, when you locked the door.
In fact, I made sure that the door really got locked.
I told you that it is safe and you may go to bed.
Did you forget, already ! I will always look out for you.

What are you talking about ?Do you know me ? Have I known you at all ?!
I don't normally forget anyone. Well! Almost.
Why don't you tell me who you are, and why are you here ?

Look! You should ask yourselves who you are for an answer.
You would never have acted this stupid, if you knew it.
Wake up, my dear self. Stop being what you are.
Talk to yourselves. Ask not who I am, ask yourselves, now on.

Believe it or Not!

Believe it or Not!

Do you want to know of a time?
When wise men were all wrong
Novices were teaching the wise
Lessons that made the books useless
The laws of physics took a vacation
Only zeroes every where you see
Yet, every thing was great.

You could be what ever you wanted to be
Be what ever you would never believe to be

Money grew on trees and fell from the skies
Everyone could buy cities and islands
Just for one self, and never to be called selfish
Even few more for their beloved
Yet know of no other place to spend

Son! Do you believe in miracles?
Miracles every day, never before,
And may never again.

I witnessed that miracle
Along with the whole world
Of just soaring into heights
Just to go higher, and higher
Of no signs of coming down

Reality was stranger than fiction
History was just getting written
Just like a fairy tale, a tale not just for imagination
A tale not just for kids, a tale to be lived through
Think that life was just like a dream, a dream with wishes
All coming true, a dream to be remembered

It was a free ticket to the ride to the skies
All aboard anytime, and free seating for all
Just hold on to the big balloon and soar to the sky
Higher and higher, higher till there was no air to breathe

All you needed was a fire in your stomach, hunger and greed
You could eat with both hands, but eat in a rush, and mouthful
You were in it for yourself, and we threw away our manners
Steal from the fellow passengers, all we could and just say
"Not at all sorry that I like your lunch, his and hers too J"

"If you are afraid of too many free passengers on the flight",
The funny bald man said,
"That is the real point of a free ride, to utopia we have never visited".

"Fire up the hot air balloon till it becomes a fun and wild ride",
said a dare devil,
"Just hold on a little tighter, for you may get thrown of from your seat,
just like those passengers who are falling off as you laugh at them"

"It is just fine to laugh at them and see them hit the ground very hard",
said a wicked

Many broken bones, if they were not yet unconscious,
Or, dead with the pleasures of the shock of reality hitting them
Or, of the riches flying away in the wind

There was no other way to stay on the ride,
but fire the balloon till the skin melts

"If the hot air is already too hot for the balloon, let us just ignore it.
Let it be, for up is the only way, and it is a lot of fun anyway"
Such were the sayings of wisdom, amidst all the chaotic fun times

You may never live through such fun times, as I have survived
The ride to tell you the tales of my youth, and still unbelievable

Yes, miracles are not believable, till you witness the strange
Stare at the impossibilities, and befriend the strange, yet real

The Big Questions

The Big Questions

No one dares to ask the fundamental questions. Some may even argue that it is not worthwhile asking questions that cannot possibly be answered.
We all know that questions, and especially the right questions, are "half the way" to the answers. Humans started asking the questions, which led them to answers, one at a time. From that perspective, the "first steps" towards the answers are the questions themselves. Let us ask questions fearlessly and with no presumption that those who ask questions may not necessarily be the same people who have the answers, nor would find the answers. Let us fire away all possible questions first. Then we can select the "right" questions.

Does the universe have a purpose? Why is the universe so big and complex? Why has it gone through so much evolution and changes? Is there any real purpose everything that has happened, a lot more that would happen in the future?

Does the concept purpose apply to the universe? Are purposes and goals limited and applicable to only humans? Is the concept of purpose only a human construct? Is it because humans know that they are mortal and so look for a purpose? For example, before the humans existed, or before the humans developed the intellect to ask questions, and define purposes to all of their actions, there was no being thinking of purpose. If there were no question asked about the purpose, by anyone at all, would there be any purpose? Fundamentally, the question itself may demand and imply an answer. With out any question being asked, there is no need to answer.

Does the purpose question for the universe mean that the answer implies a set path to satisfy a purpose, if the purpose existed? Does the concept of purpose really imply a definite path, a bounded set of happenings, and so indirectly imply a predictable future in the universe?

First come questions. Why ask why? What is the purpose of asking the questions? Is it again humanness that makes us ask questions, and question the question itself? Is it the human nature to wonder about the universe? Even though animals may have there own, however primitive, way of
questioning, and discovering the answer, deeper questions of nature have been the territory of humans.
What if there is a purpose?

What are the implications if there were indeed a purpose to the universe? Why should there be purpose for everything? The existence of the universe being very basic, one would normally think of a purpose. It may still be worthwhile to ask why should there be a purpose for not only the universe itself, but also every thing in the universe down to earth bound humans like us. If the basic question of the purpose of the universe were answered, then it would set the stage for answers to everything in the universe, to include our own life and existence, as a simple corollary.
What are the implications of No Purpose?

One simple answer would be to boldly say that there is really nothing like a purpose for the universe. It is just happening. There is no definiteness to the future. There is probably no single or unified consciousness, akin to the concept of God that is making things happen in the universe.
Is it too complex to answer?

Another argument would be that it is far too complex for the human being to understand. Looking at the history of time, humans have existed for an insignificantly short time. Humans have not answered most of the questions of the nature around them yet. In fact, humans have not even asked all the infinite set of possible questions in the universe. Most importantly, the universe has experience only things in the past, and so any questions or answers / solutions would be limited to the past experience of the universe. The universe discovers new things as time passes. This argument leads us to potential understanding that it is too complex even for the universe to answer, especially because it is not yet prepared to answer.

If it is too complex for us to answer the question, what are the necessary and sufficient requirements / qualifications to be able to answer such a profound question? Would there be any other beings in the universe capable of answering such questions? What are the chances for the existence of such beings? What are the chances of us on the earth to find them, and learn from
them?

If there were no chances of any beings capable of answering such questions, when would such beings come to existence?

Why do we care?
Why do we care for finding an answer? Why do we even ask the purpose question? Is it because we are humans? We have developed over time the purpose question to ask of ourselves. Why did such a question develop in the human mind? Why do humans have the quest to know, ask deep questions and try to find an answer to all these questions? If the question of purpose were not important or impertinent, why did humans develop such thinking?

Why are humans on the earth? Why were humans chosen to develop such a brain? Why do we think we were "chosen"? What or who chose us?

Just for day, can I be like you?

Just for day, can I be like you?
Dr. KRS Murthy

Just for day and only one day in your life and mine
Can I be you, while you be like me day through night

Will you try to close your eyes, so tightly not to see the light
or cover both your eyes with a thick dark cloth in folds?

From the early morning since you wake up from your sleep
to the minute you go back to bed late night, only to close your eyes

Just to be sure, get a dark cloth and place it on both your eyes
Bind it really tight over your eyes, so that it wont roll off at all

Yes, to be sure, go with the dark cloth, ceremoniously adorned
to your bed the night before, and sleep well, to wake up relaxed

That is how you can be me, and for only one day, in your life
to do all you may do from dawn through dusk and to late night

Oh! I wish, I could be just like you for only one day of my life
to see everything you take for granted, every minute of the day

To see the rainbow, the green pastures, the flowers, the butterfly
the colors of the different fruit which I can only smell and taste

To witness the divinity of the Sunrise from over the mountain top
To see it raise over my shoulders, into the horizon in bright red Sunset

Can we trade our roles, the gift you have with the have not?
Yes, we are like twins, one with pleasures, other only desires!
